Winder picks up support from Egg Harbor City councilmembers

Bayly Winder’s campaign for the 2nd congressional district has picked up another round of Atlantic County endorsements, this time from a group of elected officials in Egg Harbor City.

Council President Joseph Kuehner, a former mayor, and newly elected Councilman Tanner Ortiz both lent their support to Winder’s campaign to unseat Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) on Tuesday, as did former Councilwoman Hazel Mueller, who represented the city for nearly a decade before losing a pair of primaries in 2016 and 2017.

“Bayly Winder understands the real pressures families in Atlantic County are facing, from the rising cost of housing to groceries and utilities,” Kuehner said in a statement. “He’s focused on affordability and on making government work for people again. I believe Bayly will be a strong, independent voice for South Jersey, and I’m proud to endorse him for Congress.”

Winder appears to be competing primarily with Tim Alexander, a civil rights attorney who also ran in 2022 and 2024, for the South Jersey district’s Democratic nomination. Alexander has the backing of Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman, an important endorsement in the district’s largest county, but Winder has still been able to pick up supporters in important Atlantic County towns like Pleasantville, Hamilton Township, and now Egg Harbor City.
